Meta Tags and SEO
Meta Tags are still an eluding concept to many SEO professionals. The confounding question whether the Meta Tags really contribute for SEO or not is not thoroughly answered by any. While some of them ignore the Meta Tags as an archaic form of search engine marketing, another group argues their relevance in the present-day SEOs.
Meta Tags are placed between the HTML tags of a website. Meta Tags find the relevance in SEO because they contain the useful information for the search engines about the website. Of all the Meta Tags, the Title Tag and the Description Tag are the most important as they convey the central theme of the website.
There is a common belief that Meta Tags are not considered by Google, the No.1 search engine worldwide. However, some experts believe that Google uses the Description Tags to identify the contents of the website should the page snippet is not available for a particular website. Additionally these Meta Tags give a better view of your website links in the Search Engine Result Page (SERP) giving the user an idea about the contents of the website. The page title, the description and the content details, etc., are important in the SERP from the user’s perspective.
After all, the popular SEO methods do not entirely depend on a single factor. No one can predict how the Google spiders treat a particular component of a website in a given instance. These elements are interlinked and they together contribute for the website traffic. For example, a website that has recently added the advanced Meta Tags in it has achieved better results in the SERP. It is, therefore, recommended that every website add this free tool in their HTML codes. Meta Tags are used popularly by almost all search engines, other than Google. Thus they find their relevance in the modern SEO too.
How do you optimize your page using Meta Tags? Ideally, you need to concentrate on the three important tags- the Title Tag, the Description Tag, and the Keyword Tags. The Meta Tags should not be filled with the keywords. The keywords are the most important leads for the search engine crawlers and they should be used appropriately according to the content of the website. The maximum allowed number of keywords in the Meta Tags is three. Some website owners prefer to use geographical locations in their Keyword Tag, and this is found to be useful to get localized optimization. The Description Tag should be restricted to 10 to 15 words and should be concise, including the most important text in it. Remember that this description is going to be displayed in the SERP, and it is able to draw the attention of the visitors to your website.
In short, the addition of the Meta Tags in your website may not promise a dramatic change in your website’s rankings. However, it will complement the other components responsible for SEO and will help to improve the ranking. It is a simple and free-of-cost method of optimizing your website. Why not try it?
