SEO301 - Latent Semantic indexing (Chap 5)
Latent Semantic indexing (LSI) is one of the latest methods adopted by Google to make its search process more intelligent. Google has been adopting innovative strategies to improve the search results through its search engine. The new method, the latent semantic indexing, is the latest among them, and it helps the search engine to yield a better search result with more relevant information for a particular search query.
Latent Semantic indexing is an answer to the unethical forms of SEO. Google search engine has been facing the threat of the spammed content and keywords that fill many websites just for the sake or optimization. The new method, LSI, moves a step further by identifying the websites based on their themes, and thus it can categorize the websites on the basis of the relevance of the content in them, not just the keywords filled in it.
The LSI websites are based on the ‘themes’ that are inter related. When a search query is made on a particular topic, a group of websites will be displayed even if they don’t share the specific keywords in common. Also, even if the websites share a particular keyword in common, it may not display them as they refer to a different concept. For example, if you make a search request for ‘management courses’ in Google, it will yield the SERP result displaying the websites that cater management education, not topics related to different types of ‘management’. Also it will yield the results providing information on other courses related to management. In effect, LSI will give you a SERP display with more relevant information on the request made by you.
The impact of LSI
The sudden impact of LSI can be best viewed by the increase in the page ranking of the popular websites that cater quality content and services. The other side of the story is that websites that were supported by link exchange programs and single keyword profile were pushed back to the bottom in the search index.
How to create LSI-friendly content
The future SEO may find more relevance on LSI and so the content of the website should be made appropriately. In order to create an LSI –friendly website, one needs no special education. Compared to the sophisticated process of counting the keyword frequency and the placement of keywords, LSI-friendly content can be easily prepared by anyone who is thorough with the concept of the business or service catered through the website. The content has to be absolutely natural. It should contain maximum details and should include important words and phrases that convey the idea of the website.
The links that are connected may not have the same keyword or phrase repeated in them. Instead they can have related phrases that may convey the same or the related idea. Thus the new method not only will help to improve the richness of the content, but also will provide better optimization to the website owing to its variety of keywords or phrases.
It is time to revise the content of your website, if it was relying on a single keyword / phrase. Try to include more natural content that convey the concept more intelligently than technically.
