Choosing the best design/layout for your website
A website is not merely a collection of information. It is an effective method of communication with your users. Every website, starting from the personal page of a high-profile man to an online shopping page, has its own purpose. Though most of these pages are intended for sharing the information with the users, there are commercial interests behind the design and publication of all the websites. Therefore, it is important that you concentrate on the aspects of the website that decide its effective communication with your prospective customers.
The website layout is of paramount importance in the design of a website. The attractive templates mounted on your website will call the attention of the users. The following are the important considerations to be kept in mind while designing your website.
Use of images: You can improve the look as well as the performance of your website if you add the image effects to the visuals. Try the use of swap images and rollover images in your website and experience the difference in the effect they produce.
Swap image is a cool feature that will attract the user because of its simplified technique of viewing different images without downloading them individually. This technique can be best used in websites where a variety of products are on display, for example, as in the case of the website of an auto showroom or an accessory shop. The various parts and models can be easily navigated without going page by page.
Rollover images allow the user to view different images with a simple mouse scroll. This method also, like the swap method, allows the user to view graphics and texts more conveniently.
Use of Flash: Though the use of Flash is recommended in websites for better appearance, it is not good to apply it in the entire website. Flash can be used in the ‘intro’ sections of the website in order to catch the immediate attention of the users. Using too much flash animations will slow down the data transmission and thus affect the performance of your website. Go for the small Flash intros that are catchy and spicy than those colorful and full-sized animations.
Use of DHTML : DHTML makes the navigation process much easier. The DHTML codes can be used for menus, navigation tools, and tip-boxes, etc. A DHTML web page is the best way to create an interactive website that conveniently interacts with the user. Though better methods such as the unobtrusive Javascripts are used in the place of DHTML, they still find the relevance as essential web designing tools.
Use of Graphics: A website is a ‘dry’ page without any graphics in it. The graphics are in a way the most important commercial and aesthetic factor of a website. Try to apply the best graphics and make your website stand alone among the rest.
Text and CSS: These are the most common components of almost all the websites, and they have to be given the priority as they are the most relevant source of information of your website. The texts should be prepared with attractive medium-sized fonts and highlighted if needed. CSS styles are much more highly favored over the traditional tables formatting as they allow the Search Engine spiders easy systematic access to all information presented on the page unlike tables. CSS also allows easy application of the same formatting to multiple pages without having to define these formats repeatedly.
These features are the most relevant as they create the first impression about your website.
